XF3 Campaign Second Phase Announced! PDF Print E-mail
General News

School is out, summer is soon to be upon us and we know that you don't have anything better to do than to promote "The X-Files" SO, we are officially announcing the second phase of the "Believe in the Future" campaign! Why did it take us so long? Well, like Chris Carter, we also think good things come to those who wait, and wait, and wait some more.

The first phase was announced on May 1st and included a world wide postcard project in which fans from all over the globe began submitting post cards asking FOX to green-light a third "X-Files" feature film. Regional liaisons began collecting cards to forward to XFN's Los Angeles office for delivery to FOX in November. That part of the campaign is still ongoing.

The second phase will continue the worldwide post card project but in addition to this, we are asking for help from all "X-Files" fan vidders. During this phase, we are asking vidders to submit videos advertising interest for a third film in three ways. The first is based on the IWTB testimonials done by David and Gillian while promoting XF2. You can find a link to that here. The second is based on a specific Match.com advertisement. You may find a link to that one here. We suggest starting off that video with the completion of a third film and ending it with the first time you saw the "Believe in the Future" campaign on XFN. This will make sense when you watch the clip. If you have any questions on how to proceed with that one, let us know, we'd be glad to help. The third, is based on the famous "priceless" mastercard commercials. You may find an example for that here.

All videos need to be uploaded to YouTube so that the general YouTube population will be able to see them. The idea is to spread the word. XFN will be sending every video that is included in this phase 2 to FOX so we encourage all of you to submit videos. We will also be running a video contest where vidders can win "Believe in the Future" merchandise. Please include XF3 Army in title of your video, preferably before the title you give the video.

In addition to submitting videos for the "Believe in the Future" campaign, XFN is also hosting an IWTB week that will take place from July 18th through July 25th. During this week, we are calling on all fans to go out and purchase the single disk copy of IWTB on DVD or on iTunes and mail us a copy of your receipt. You may then keep the extra copy of the film or we will be organizing a donation to several charities that include soldiers overseas and retirement homes among others. More information on that will be released at a later date. The purpose of IWTB week is to spike the film's sales and send a message to FOX.

We have been humbled by the outpouring of support and the success thus far of the "Believe in the Future" campaign and we very much look forward to going the distance with you. Keep on believing.

Here is what we know at this time.

The "X-Files" creative team is looking at doing a third film with an alien mythology story line that would wrap up the mythology story for "The X-Files" and the 2012 date would be a part of it. Now whether the movie releases in 2012 is up for debate as there as been no official green light from Fox at this time but if it were to release in December of 2012, then filming could begin as late as March of 2012 (if it were on the same 8 month shooting/editing schedule as IWTB). That still leaves plenty of time for a greenlight from Fox and we are hopeful that an announcement will be made in 2010.

As for a 10th season, there was a 10th season of the show that was talked about way back when that would have continued with Doggett and Reyes but in January of 2002, Chris Carter decided to pull the plug on the series as he felt they had gone as far as they wanted to go at that point. The series ended with the two part, "The Truth" in May of 2002.

Recently on his blog over at biglight.com, Frank Spotnitz mentioned that he was optimistic for a third film, especially given the huge support "The X-Files" has received from the XF3 Army and Believe in the Future campaign. XFN met with Fox in November to deliver thousands of postcards, videos and green light XF3 M&Ms to Fox and had an hour long meeting discussing the need for a third feature film and our belief that it would be profitable for Fox.

I hope this answered your questions!

A few months ago I saw a news report saying that plans for a 3rd feature film were underway. It went on to say filming would not start until 2012, It also claimed that this movie would finally deal with the "alien invasion" scenario raised throughout the series and that plans for a 10th season were also being tossed around to tie the second movie into the 3rd. Now as exciting as that sounds, try as I might I can find nothing to support or verify this... has anyone got any leads here?
