See I like Mythology a lot, but I find the stand alone a necessity cause it lets you wind down.

I agree. You needed the break in between, it kept the show fresh.

There was nothing like being on the edge of your seat in the conspiracy episodes though and knowing that the hour was almost up.. then that 'to be continued..." came up on the screen making you scream, "No!". hehehe

I'm new here... obviously.

For me, I've been a fan of both even though I came in late with the series around season 3 but I caught up pretty quickly. My mother was the one that got me into the series. She's a big believer in aliens and UFOs.

Anyway... to me.

The mythology was this ongoing story that kept the engines running.
The stand alones were fun diversions that weren't overtly related to anything but were X-files-y.

I can't pick one over the other because they work so well together... creating its unique structure. I miss the show very much.

Hard to say, I guess I prefer the stand alone episodes over the mythology but it really depends on the season. After season six I think that the mythology episodes were noticeably weaker than those of previous seasons. Still, I remember as a kid watching the season three finale and freaking out when I realized that I would have to wait a whole summer to find out what was going to happen next; I don't think a stand alone episode ever provoked a reaction like that from me.

The monster episodes are great, the humorous ones crack me up (Bad Blood, i think, with Mr. Owen), and those heartwarming episodes like Postmodern Prometheus are just so solid.

I don't know why I put Mr. Owen. I forgot his last name and I think I mashed him and his brother up, had a brainfart, and thought his name was Luke Owen. Hahahaha. I meant Luke Wilson.

My bad.
